Solar

Unique Business Model

Solar Communities develops and implements tailored, innovative solar energy based solutions to reduce our client’s carbon footprint.  Utilizing our extensive experience in renewable energy, our broad licensing and accreditation, plus our unique green electricity generation and retail licenses, we are able to deliver the optimum strategic solution for each client.
Solar Communities is the solar energy arm of Diamond Energy which possesses a unique combination of licenses and accreditations.

Solutions Tailored to Our Clients’ Environment

Solar Communities is flexible and can play a number of key roles in solar energy projects, depending on client requirements. We can design solar energy solutions around governmental regulations, environmental standards, funding requirements, multi-level organisational criteria and complex infrastructure situations.

To date, these solutions include Solar Villages (for retirement villages), Solar Families (for company employees and their families) and Solar Estates (for property developments). Each project utilises the latest technology, rebates, regulations, metering, systems, designs, purchasing power and environmental practices to provide affordable solar electricity to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

How does it work?

Solar electricity installation packages are tailored, based on:

  • Governmental rebate criteria (income, home ownership, size of installation, etc)
  • Renewable Energy Certificate criteria (MegaWatts produced per annum according to postcode)
  • Latest PV Panel and Inverter technology
  • Forward thinking Smart Meter technology
  • Bulk purchasing power

to provide the lowest-cost solution for a quality installation for selected exclusive communities.
The Solar Electricity Installation Package is installed for each house and includes:

  • Solar Photovoltaic Panels
  • An Inverter
  • A Meter (preferably a Smart Meter)
  • A connection to the main electricity grid

Why do I need to act now?

Depending on the circumstances of your community, it is best to be prepared and positioned to take advantage of any opportunity at the critical moment, as regulations and rebates are changing constantly.

For example, The Australian Government under the Renewable Energy Target Scheme (RET) has introduced Solar Credits. The schemes current rules allow for small scale renewable energy systems to create at the time of installation REC’s equivalent to the output of up to 15 years operation. This provides an upfront subsidy to households and businesses that are prepared to sell their REC’s.

Therefore, your community needs to explore all of the relevant factors as soon as possible, to avoid missing out on its best opportunity to benefit from solar electricity.

Benefits of Solar Energy

  • Clean, free, electricity from the sun
  • No greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reduced electricity bills
  • Protection against rising electricity costs
  • Silent operation with no moving parts
  • Easy, quick installation by licensed, accredited electricians
  • Increased value of your community’s homes or businesses
  • Additional solar panels can be added later
  • Long warranties, long life
  • Huge Government rebates

Government assistance post 1 July 2009

The Australian Government is supporting small generation systems under the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme. The RET scheme guarantees a market for additional renewable energy generation, using a mechanism of tradeable Renewable Energy Certificates known as REC’s.

The Australian Government has set a target to achieve a 20% per cent share of renewables in Australia’s electricity mix by 2020. Solar Credits will apply to the first 1.5kilowatts (kW) of capacity installed. Generation from capacity above 1.5kW will still be eligible for the standard 1:1 rate of REC’s creation. The credits will only apply to the first small scale generation system installed at an address. This offer is not means tested.

The Solar Credits will only apply in the first time period that certificates are created for a system. This means you can receive the full lifetime benefit of the system up front at point of sale, helping reduce the cost of purchasing the solar system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar Villages

Designed specifically for communities of Independent Living Units (e.g. Retirement Villages). In these situations, the community usually shares similar characteristics, such as property ownership, property design, community service areas, identical metering  and electrical systems, and community site plans (including roofing elevations). Also the proximity of the properties within the community facilitates such services as site inspections and installations.

Solar Estates

Designed specifically for communities of Individual Living Units (e.g. Property Estates). In these situations, the community usually shares some similar characteristics, such as property size, property layout, identical metering  and electrical systems, and community site plans (including roofing elevations). Also the proximity of the properties within the community facilitates such services as site inspections and installations.

Solar Families

Designed specifically for communities within a business (e.g. employees and their families). In these situations, the business can add value to those employed while reducing the carbon footprint of the company as a whole. In these situations, the community does not usually share similar characteristics, and questionnaires are required to ascertain which strategy is best for the majority.
